Hi Bill, I'm surprised you didn't get them to agree to clean your house, paint the outside, and fill your fridge full of beer while you were at it!   (or is that next?)

With normal mileage it would have been about 22k but with my mileage top book is £18,500, which was their first offer that I smiled at. I got them up to £20,750. which I guess means once they service and valet it will put it on the forecourt at about 23k and I got the new one down from £38,489 to £37,851 which is about 20% below list of a new and its got blind spot monitor which would have been extra.

As long as its nice and sunny, I need time to refit my mudflaps, and chrome trim round the lights, and good light for good pics.

WOW good price, bill, between the price I got, and the forecourt of my Xtype they had £4000 in it. Keep your eye on their web site and see if you see your car, its really weird seeing "what was your" car on the screen.

You are right Andy not long home, so some early impressions

1. It is bloody fast, in fact a lot quicker than a chipped 2.7, and as smooth as velvet, with more to come as it loosens up, tick over even from outside is very quiet, anyone not knowing would be hard pressed to identify it as a diesel, and in gear acceleration is phenomenal, with little or no turbo lag, and the same when moving off, in fact the first time I left the dealers, I had the tyres squealing as I took off

2. Interior. I was concerned that the warm charcoal and figured ebony would be too sombre, and whilst it is obviously dark compared to my Champaign and walnut, I have very quickly got to like it very much and think its classy looking. The Dove suede headlining and Ivory stitching contrast nicely

3 Still on the interior the sound system as well as the BW has a DAB radio (is that standard on the portfolio?, which allows 3 settings, Stereo, 3 channel, and Dolby pro logic 11. in the stereo it sounded very similar to the set up in the PL, 3 channel is slightly better, but when the Dolby surround sound is selected, even my rock n roll ears can hear the difference, there is more base, and the sound is richer all round. As yet I have only tried it on radio as I didn't have any CD's with me, and right now I am loading up a memory stick to try the USB interface.

4. My main concern was the big wheels, and even though that had been allayed by the test drive, I still had some concerns, which I am happy to report were unfounded. There was in fact less tyre road noise that in my PL but that could be in part due to there being more tread on these as mine were getting down to about 3mm. I don't know if Jaguar modify spring and damper rates for the bigger wheels but ride comfort was just as good, without knowing I could not have told the difference. Potholes, raised drain covers etc that couldn't be avoided were passed over with no more than the normal distant muffled bdmp, and although the ride is ever so slightly firmer, it is in no way inferior to the ride I had on the 18 in wheels. So very happy with that result

5. Wind noise is very much lower, even with the radio muted there is no more than a whisper. and the whole car just felt even more solid and quieter.
The Spectrum Blue is a new colour and looks amazing, and the chrome vents look fantastic, hopefully if its dry tomorrow, I can get my refurbished (scrubbed and coated with tyre black) splash guards and chrome trim round the rear lights refitted and get some pics.

I looked at watch at 10;30am and thought, its time he's there. So Bill, going back to your original question. Have you done the right thing?, silly me as if I need to ask. You may remenber from a previous thread of mine I thought the same about geting a petrol model, but like you I love it, I did the right thing. So glad your expectations have been surpassed. Enjoy getting to know all those extra "toys". I must have had a senior moment for some reason I thought you was getting a Black one. One of the troubles of coming on line late poor ol brain gets tired. Spectrum blue is great, really suits the XF's lines.

Fantastic Bill - glad you're blown away - congrats.

For anyone who hasn't been keeping up with events, Bill got a great deal for his new XF. What he hasn't told you is that the reason he got such a great deal was because Mercybill had a secret second car to trade in:

SSSSSHHhhhhh...whisper it quietly, but all is revealed here.......

Well this deal just keeps getting better, checking through the features, I just realised I have a few items which are not standard on the portfolio.
Selena wheels £988.00, Blind spot monitoring £450.00 and the rear camera and front sensors at £395.00 are all optional extras, I am surprised but pleased it all makes the deal even better. At this spec new would have been £47,580 So I saved over £10,000

On a more serious note I am yet to hear a single comment questing the wisdom of switching to the 3.0l. That is not to denigrate the 2.7 but rather to substantiate the near unanimous opinion that the 3.0l is a seriously good option.

Ok I have updated profile and stuck on a couple of pictures just for now, Today I refitted the splash guards, and the chrome trim on the rear lights.

Soon as we get a bit of sun I will get some other pics. Anyway although the dealer has carried out the body care treatment, f.o.c. In my opinion its not as good as the Diamondbrite Ultra (even though they claimed it was what they were applying), to my eye there is a slight haze and I can get an improvement just using the diamondbrite conservator, so I am contacting Sean to have it redone properly, then I will get some better pics.

EDIT

Couple of interior shots. I am growing to like the figured Ebony, thought nothing better than the Burr Walnut, butttt, and the suede head lining is fab.
