Congratulations Baron! Now change your sig! It will take a while for your engine to loosen up, but once it does that car really flies. Mine has gotten significantly better since I had it serviced and had a wheel straightened out. What I will be curious about is how you find the tires once they're scrubbed in.

Well, after 18 months (almost to the date), 18,000 miles, three fun track days, it is now time to say goodbyes to the 2009 XF Supercharged.

I took advantage of my very low lease residual, to do an early payoff and traded the car in.

I had some good times with the XF-SC and will certainly miss it. The looks, compliments and most of all the driving dynamics were very nice.

In the end though, the desire for a bit more power and better seats, and the inability of Jaguar to solve a recurring brake problem, combined with my dealer closing, sealed the XF-SC's fate. I could no longer deal with the aggravation of being back to the dealer every month or two. The new dealer being 30 miles away would only add to the aggravation. I did have a number of intermittent electrical faults - most (if not all) cleared after a restart, and unlike others, I never got stranded. So, it is what it is.

The lucky guy or gal that gets my car, will get 4 brand new tires and the car already serviced for the 20K service. Hopefully Jaguar will be able to solve the brake problem for the new owner - at least the record is there - 2 separate SBs, three set of rotors, two sets of pads, one caliper. Good luck to the new owner - car was well cared for and is in great shape.

On balance, it was a positive experience to own the Jaguar. It was a special feeling driving that car, that I never got from any other car I have owned.

P.S. I know it is summer, but if anyone needs a set of close to new 18" performance snow tires, mounted on brand new rims with Jaguar TPMS for the winter, PM me. They only have like 2,500 miles on them.
Not too sure how having had 3 track days you can consider a car to be well cared for.!
Cheers.

Atta-Baron!!!! Congratulations and very well done. My hats off to Bill as well for cleverly seeing thru the ruse.

Baron is now among a select handful of repeat buyers of the XF. I believe they still number under a dozen forum users. We ought to track that on a separate thread.

This unexpected news - and its dramatic unveiling - should be celebrated. It is easily worthy of a Carl-Peter Forster press release!!! I am also rethinking plans for the upcoming Monticello event.

As Baron has correctly demonstrated, the 2010 XFR is easily better than any $90k Bimmer. Perhaps Baron you could now introduce giants84 to your dealer for their mutual profit.

Thanks Bill - I originally thought they were all chrome, then I read a post of yours that mentioned polished aluminum - so please keep the lessons coming.

I found out that pressing and holding the end of the turn signal on ignition on, brings up an endless set of engineering stats. The only failures indicated on mine is something that says "PIE Failure" or "PEI Failure". Any idea what PIE or PEI could be?

Easily "better". Giants, if you are interested in a personal introduction to the dealership manager from NJ, P.M. me. He seems to be a straight shooter. He told me he has been with Jaguar (dealership) for 21 years - that must be a record.

Sadly, though, the Monticello July 26 event is sold out - so, if you didn't sign up, you are out of luck. The next one in Monticello is October 4th. There is also NJMP Sept 13 and 14, and a few other tracks. If you are thinking of going to any of those, let me know and I'll try to be there.

Thanks. I'm so bummed out. I had just put 4 brand new Yokohama Advan Sport tires on the XF-SC - they seemed to be great tires - very soft rubber - almost track tires. I was so looking forward to tracking them on the 26th. I'm not so sure about these Dunlops, they seem to be hard rubber like the Pzero Jaguar spec. But I'll let you know after the 26th.

You are right - I should have done at least 6. :) I'll try to do better with the XFR.

Seriously though, show me a person that takes his high end (911, F430, M5, etc) car to the track regularly, and you can bet that is a very well cared for car.

Appreciate the offer but my x5M is being built as we speak thank you though. Congrats on the new car looks great. How many miles did the car have, because for 63 grand you stole it from the dealer, great deal man. Also thanks abasu for mentioning it.

155 miles.

Not really a steal - remember it is a 2010. XFR invoice price is $72K. Jaguar is offering a $6K incentive on all 2010 XFRs. That brings it to $66K. Jaguar hold back is 4% of invoice price or 2,880. That brings the wash out price to about $63K. It costs the dealer about $1K/month to finance, insure and keep the car in show-ready condition. They had the car on the lot for 5 months (I think). Plus they may make $1-2K profit on selling my SC. Plus they probably get an origination fee from setting the lease up with USB.

I think that is a fair deal to both parties.

By the way, they have another XFR (black with the charcoal/red interior) for the same price.

Nice!! I'll be curious to hear your impressions.

Well, only had it for 3 days. The car is really impressive. Dynamic mode and Track DSC are much more aggressive than on the 2009 XF-SC and combined with the e-diff, demand a bit more respect and finesse to drive. It is not a progressive slide, but a side step hop, that demand quick hands if you exceed the limits of traction. I can comment more after taking it to Monticello on the 26th. Went out last night with some friends in the bar scene, and literally had two people running (no kidding) next to the car to ask questions. But also got a dressing down from a drunk woman - it started with "You think you are so hot ... and went on...to I can get my Corvette..." got many laughs out of that one.

Attachment xfr slide anon.jpg

Deal: This is the only XFR color that I wanted, as it is the only one that tones down the chrome (err polished aluminum) in the front a bit. I wanted a 2010, as I didn't like the black out grille and red brakes that seem to be on most 2011. There were two available in that color within 75 miles of where I live. One dealer wanted to start discussions at $72K. The other had it advertised at $65K. We settled on $63,300.00. Someone was going to take over my lease, but was taking too long. I didn't want to miss out on the opportunity, so I traded in for a slight deficit between early payoff and the wholesale price of the car. It got rolled into the lease. Money factor was .190 (that is 3.8% year), which is not bad. Walked in the dealership at 1PM, left at 4:30PM with the new car ;)

So yes, it was mostly an impulse buy. But it was the right car, and the numbers were as good as they'd ever get on the XFR. Had I not have to fold my deficit in, the lease would be $1,099.00/36 months, 12K miles, .18 additional miles. Which is on par with a $90K BMW lease. Not great, but not horrible.

Now, I want to forget what I'm paying and enjoy the car.

Oh, the seats are great - first class really. Steering is still not as quick or weighted as it should be for an "R" car, and exhaust note is a bit subdued, but all else works quite well.

As LeChef said, the E63 was the only true option (I do want 5 seats occasionally), and it was too close in looks to the thousands of E350 mom-mobiles around.

Lunar Gray? Atta boy Baron! :)

The Panamera is not bad, but it's BIG, the awd on the 4S makes the steering woolly, and of course it's not that quick. If you really want a Panamera go for the plain S - you know you don't need awd, so why pay for it? The 7 Series is a boat - why bother? The new E63 has a better made interior (but it's dull) and is faster than the XFR, but quite a bit more expensive. The shame is the new M5 is not available yet. You could order the new M5 and just take a used 550i off the lot and run that until the M arrives.

Last weekend, we were at our favorite Hamptons, Long Island beach and I parked my XF near a Panamera 4S, which was a similar color. If you looked at the Panamera from the right angles, it looked okay, but from the other angles, it just looked wierd and bloated. The XF looks stunning from every angle. This was the first time I was able to see a Panamera and an XF in the same field of reference. The fact that the Panamera costs roughly double (depending on model and options) makes the XF seem like even more of a bargain.

The Panamera is really an XJ competitor although it is overpriced compared to the XJ. It's a function over form car and the turbo seems especially impressive. Of course comparably equipped for $60k more it should be.

Nice one Baron, great that your still decided to stick with the XF amidst (lets be honest) such illustrious competition.

Anyway old chap, sort yer avatar out...or i'll have to sort it...remember the Red Baron avatar (in your BMW phase) :D ?
