Time to say goodbye to the XF Supercharged (the good and the bad, after 18 months, vote on poll)

I took advantage of my very low lease residual, to do an early payoff and traded the car in.
I had some good times with the XF-SC and will certainly miss it. The looks, compliments and most of all the driving dynamics were very nice.
In the end though, the desire for a bit more power and better seats, and the inability of Jaguar to solve a recurring brake problem, combined with my dealer closing, sealed the XF-SC's fate. I could no longer deal with the aggravation of being back to the dealer every month or two. The new dealer being 30 miles away would only add to the aggravation. I did have a number of intermittent electrical faults - most (if not all) cleared after a restart, and unlike others, I never got stranded. So, it is what it is.
The lucky guy or gal that gets my car, will get 4 brand new tires and the car already serviced for the 20K service. Hopefully Jaguar will be able to solve the brake problem for the new owner - at least the record is there - 2 separate SBs, three set of rotors, two sets of pads, one caliper. Good luck to the new owner - car was well cared for and is in great shape.
On balance, it was a positive experience to own the Jaguar. It was a special feeling driving that car, that I never got from any other car I have owned.
P.S. I know it is summer, but if anyone needs a set of close to new 18" performance snow tires, mounted on brand new rims with Jaguar TPMS for the winter, PM me. They only have like 2,500 miles on them.
Cheers.

Well, I can tell you that I am driving an European sports sedan - maybe I'll start a poll, lets see who guesses right
Vote on the poll above - I'll post answer with pictures as soon as I take them. Winner gets a case of Diet Coke.

Maybe the Baron should have waited to read this article in Winding Road "Is The Jaguar XJ A Panamera Beater?". XJ vs Panamera

The Panamera is not bad, but it's BIG, the awd on the 4S makes the steering woolly, and of course it's not that quick. If you really want a Panamera go for the plain S - you know you don't need awd, so why pay for it? The 7 Series is a boat - why bother? The new E63 has a better made interior (but it's dull) and is faster than the XFR, but quite a bit more expensive. The shame is the new M5 is not available yet. You could order the new M5 and just take a used 550i off the lot and run that until the M arrives.

Can't imagine the forum without Baron stirring things and keeping us on our toes.
You do know no other car has the hidden fume device that pumps low grade opium gas constantly into the ventilation and guarantees addiction to the car. If you feel you are getting cold sweats in the new car you will need to get back to a Jag very quickly!
Good luck with whatever you go with though Baron.

Bill, you obviously don't know Baron yet, even after his 1000+ posts(!)
The Jaguar's extraordinary refinement, inside and out (and under the bonnet), is something Baron appreciates but does not ultimately value.
Conversely, JLR's refusal to run lease giveaways grates on him.
What he really wants is a leased German. Four seats meet his family's needs. And launch control is de rigeur, so he can smoke ricers as he pulls away from those occasional Connecticut stoplights.
Like I said he'll be missed - the forum will be less colorful, and also less informative without him - but he has clearly found heaven in a Porsche. Well, for now, anyway..
Baron I called this before seeing your multiple-choice poll. Not interested in the Diet Cokes, thanks. But I'll take tea with buttered toast and a ride in the Panamera any fall weekend. Wishing you the very best!!

You see, all baron's biting and cursing is so typical of somebody who is really in love!
Baron has become a "real" JAGHEAD now!

Well, only had it for 3 days. The car is really impressive. Dynamic mode and Track DSC are much more aggressive than on the 2009 XF-SC and combined with the e-diff, demand a bit more respect and finesse to drive. It is not a progressive slide, but a side step hop, that demand quick hands if you exceed the limits of traction. I can comment more after taking it to Monticello on the 26th. Went out last night with some friends in the bar scene, and literally had two people running (no kidding) next to the car to ask questions. But also got a dressing down from a drunk woman - it started with "You think you are so hot ... and went on...to I can get my Corvette..." got many laughs out of that one.

Deal: This is the only XFR color that I wanted, as it is the only one that tones down the chrome (err polished aluminum) in the front a bit. I wanted a 2010, as I didn't like the black out grille and red brakes that seem to be on most 2011. There were two available in that color within 75 miles of where I live. One dealer wanted to start discussions at $72K. The other had it advertised at $65K. We settled on $63,300.00. Someone was going to take over my lease, but was taking too long. I didn't want to miss out on the opportunity, so I traded in for a slight deficit between early payoff and the wholesale price of the car. It got rolled into the lease. Money factor was .190 (that is 3.8% year), which is not bad. Walked in the dealership at 1PM, left at 4:30PM with the new car
So yes, it was mostly an impulse buy. But it was the right car, and the numbers were as good as they'd ever get on the XFR. Had I not have to fold my deficit in, the lease would be $1,099.00/36 months, 12K miles, .18 additional miles. Which is on par with a $90K BMW lease. Not great, but not horrible.
Now, I want to forget what I'm paying and enjoy the car.
Oh, the seats are great - first class really. Steering is still not as quick or weighted as it should be for an "R" car, and exhaust note is a bit subdued, but all else works quite well.
As LeChef said, the E63 was the only true option (I do want 5 seats occasionally), and it was too close in looks to the thousands of E350 mom-mobiles around.

Just for clarity, the brightwork on the side windows is polished aluminium, the Front gril etc is chrome plated plastic, as are the side vents when fitted and mirror backs. here endedth the lesson LOL
